Afrah graduated in International Politics and East Asian Studies. She is currently a Mental Health Act Manager and a Governor for the Sheffield Health and Social Care Trust. She is a member of both Sheffield For Democracy and the Fabian Society. She is active as a community volunteer and has written articles for a local  magazine on issues involving regeneration, development and community cohesion. She has worked closely with young people, asylum seekers, refugees, women fleeing domestic violence and at rehabilitation centres; and has held events fundraising for various charities. She joined the Labour Party a year ago, with the desire to learn and develop her knowledge further; to be a voice representing women, young people and people with mental health problems.
