Our February Discussion Meeting

TOPIC :           LABOUR CONSTITUENCY CAMPAIGNING : CONTINUITY OR CHANGE ?

SPEAKER :    PAT SEYD

TIME :             8pm to 9.15pm

DATE :            SUNDAY,  11 FEBRUARY

VENUE :         CONTACT CLUB, SNAPE HILL LANE, DRONFIELD S18 2GT

Pat Seyd is working with two of his colleagues examining Labour's election campaign during the 2017 General Election and how far its pattern and approach is changing from the past and whether it is in need of further development and advance.

It is particularly appropriate that he should address us as he and his colleagues are paying special attention to recent contrasting developments in the three local parliamentary constituencies of Sheffield Central, Sheffield Hallam and North East Derbyshire. The bulk of people who attend our discussions come from these very areas.

Pat has solid links with such communities, becoming a lecturer in the Sheffield University Politics Department in 1970. He then became Chair of the Department in 1995 and Emeritus Professor in 2003.

In particular he and his colleagues are looking into how far campaigning requires to change with the development of the social media and with local campaigning increasingly coming to take-over from centrally based publicity.

It is hoped to have the new Labour Party Parliamentary Candidate for North East Derbyshire present. She will have been selected only the day before this meeting.
