SPEAKER : STEVE PICKERING

DATE : SUNDAY, 12th FEBRUARY

North Derbyshire and Sheffield are firmly at the centre of major and immediate moves towards fracking operations. A start has been made by the major firm INEOS to apply for permission to search for shale gas on land adjacent to Bramleymoor Lane. This is situated just a short distance from the residential area of Marsh Lane in the Parish of Eckington. It is also in close proximity to areas in the Parish of Unstone; such as West Handley, Middle Handley and Apperknowle. And these are only the immediate areas under threat. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the nature of these developments and to advance means to block them.
The speaker is Steve Pickering (above) who is a regular at our Discussion Meetings. He is at the centre of the struggle to protect local communities, being a local resident living within 200 metres of the field from which INEOS are seeking to commence their operations. He is currently Chair of the Eckington Branch of the Labour Party and Secretary of the North East Derbyshire Constituency Labour Party. And he has served his community in the past as both a Parish and County Councillor.
