OUR 10th ANNIVERSARY MEETING

             DRONFIELD LABOUR PARTY DISCUSSION MEETING

TOPIC :           FRACKING

SPEAKER :    Dr. DOMENICO BAU

TIME ;             8pm to 9.15pm

DATE :            SUNDAY, 10th APRIL

VENUE :         CONTACT CLUB, SNAPE HILL LANE, DRONFIELD S18 2GT

Domenico Bau

Dr Domenico Bau is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering at Sheffield University. Link HERE for further details.

His essay on fracking (which can be linked to) is directly relevant to our meeting - See HERE .

Everyone who attends our meetings is effected by proposals related to fracking. Licences have already been issued for all of the areas in which we live for companies to explore for shale gas.

Likely discoveries (when seen as being commercially viable) will invariably lead to the companies involved then making applications to engage in fracking procedures. The Government are adopting measures to aid the application process.

How might we all be effected and what action can be taken to protect our well-being ?

Ken Curran (Snr) on Robotics and New Technology

Image result for Robotics and New Technology
The introduction of Robotics and New Technology into society without some form of democratic intervention spells danger. The threat has the potential of displacing as many as 10 to 11 million people currently in employment over the next ten years.

This was the warning given by Mr David Blanchflower, Economic Adviser to the Bank Of England in February 2016. His warning was picked up by Tom Watson Labour’s Deputy Leader at a Labour Spring Conference. Tom Watson also quoted 11 million job losses. He never told the Conference what Labour should do to address the issue.

Unless new technology is introduced in a measured and planned way in order to protect people and institutions, we run a great risk of seeing a massive social breakdown across society leading to civil disorder. If Industry and Commerce are not mandated to ensure the needs of the people are foremost among their considerations, chaos shall be the result.
